NFF climate roller dynamometer completed
The new, state-of-the-art climate roller test bench at the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology (NFF) at the Technical University of Braunschweig has been completed and put into operation! We are proud that we were able to be involved in this. Here we worked for ETS (Efficient Technical Solutions GmbH), which is the planner and installer of the entire system.
The climate roller dynamometer of the Lower Saxony Research Center for Vehicle Technology expands the testing options of the NFF technical center to include tests under controlled climatic conditions. On the newly constructed test bench, driving performance and efficiency measurements, climate comfort investigations, thermal management analyses and investigations into shifting and starting comfort on motor vehicles can be carried out in the temperature range from -30°C to +40°C at up to 95% relative humidity.
With this climate roller test bench, special attention is paid to the flow guidance so that a realistic flow around the vehicle can be achieved at wind speeds of up to 150 km/h. For this purpose, an open flow channel was integrated over two levels in the climate chamber.
This is also achieved by the special air flow and the height-adjustable ceiling, which allows the chamber cross-section to be adjusted to the vehicle height. A wheel-specific four-wheel roller test bench (4WD) with a total drive power of 800 kW is integrated into the climate chamber, so that high-performance drive trains can also be tested under the conditions mentioned. The maximum axle load of 3.5 t also enables tests on light commercial vehicles.
To realize the climate roller test bench, we designed, manufactured and assembled the following components: Complete external and internal steel support structure of the test bench, the wind tunnel, and the lowerable ceiling including drives.
